The game was a bit more one-sided than the scoreline suggests, with the Central Coast side running amok in the opening three turns, putting three off the pitch before Carol scored the first point. As the rats and greenskins tried to mount a counterattack, the casualty count grew, with three more stretchered off, including the troll, and another knocked out. When Fedora (runner) was put out of action by mad Marvin, linewoman Dianne got a fortuitous bounce and managed to dodge away to increase the lead close to half-time. The underworld team was unable to get one back before the main break.
They did score early in the second despite a suicidal effort from Possum to put the ball carrier off the field. The pigskin was thrown in near the Mercenaries' end zone, and with Acacia uncharacteristically fumbling it, Trapper (snot) was able to scamper through retrieve it to give them some hope for the second half.
Unfortunately for the denizens of the underworld, the game was quickly put beyond doubt with a smart attacking play down the left flank that covered three-quarters of the pitch, with Clarence running it in with four turns to go. Beret (line) however would go on to make the scoreline respectable with the last attacking play of the match. |
